Q: Where do you source your natural ingredients from?
We are proud to work with the world’s premium raw materials supplier – Laboratoire Monique Remy (LMR Naturals). LMR Naturals’ guiding principle has always been to deliver premium, 100% pure and natural extracts, with a strict ethos of complete transparency, and commitment to environmental management and sustainable development.
LMR Naturals work with local producers around the world, to provide perfumers and flavourists with pure, natural, transparent, sustainable ingredients that reset the standard on quality, and inspire customers and delight consumers every day.
Q: Are Ostens fragrances natural?
While we use a very high percentage of natural ingredients in our fragrances, we also believe in using synthetic molecules as an alternative for sustainability reasons. The farming of many natural ingredients has a negative impact on ecological diversity, so we choose our ingredients carefully.
Q: Are Ostens fragrances cruelty-free and vegan?
We are against animal cruelty. We love our Ostens mascot dog Otto (come and meet him when you visit our London Showroom), so we ensure all our suppliers adhere to strict no animal testing policy when manufacturing our products.
We also do not use any animal derived fragrance materials either like animal musks, fixatives or even natural ambergris in our fragrances. We believe the aroma-chemical synthetic alternatives are just as good.
Q: What wax do you use in your Illumination candles?
Ostens is a fragrance brand first and foremost, so we ensure that every product we create is made to highlight the beauty of the fragrance and thus choose the ingredients that ensure you have the most beautiful scent, best diffusion, and cleanest burn.
Our unique blend, which we’ve perfected over time features Rapeseed vegetal wax and mineral wax (the Rapeseed wax is derived from the yellow flowering plant). This formulation was carefully chosen for optimal candle performance.
Our team are always making sure we are up to date on the technology, science and legislation that relate to our industry.
Q: How can I get a sample?
You can try our fragrances before committing to a full-sized bottle with a sample. You can purchase them here.
Q: What’s a Préparation Oil?
One of the star ingredients that first inspired our Impression Eaux de Parfum. These highest quality oils of rose, jasmine, patchouli, cedarwood and cashmeran velvet are exactly the same as the perfumer would smell and mix with.
Q: How do I apply Préparation Oil?
Use the glass wand provided to apply the scent until you reach the level you like. Think pulse points such as upper wrist and neck.
Q: Where in my fragrance ritual do I use Préparation Oil?
Use the oil first, then follow with the matching Impression Eau de Parfum if you want a fail-safe combination. Layer together or each can be in different place. Just have a play.
Q: Can I use Préparation Oil with one of my favourite perfumes?
Yes, you can. Wear it with any of your fragrances – the easiest way to start is with one that also features the same ingredient. So rose oil with a rose scent and jasmine oil with a jasmine scent and so on.
